Stats support that only around 10% of people are naturally excellent leaders with high EI, without any form of intervention
I’ve often pondered why this is; every business, every family, every group needs someone to be in a leadership role – and although the technical skills of each may vary according to the situation (a deep knowledge of car mechanics isn’t necessarily useful to the owners of the Cross Fit gym but if you’re a leader in a car manufacturing business it sure would help if you knew that cars are all about) what can be universally agreed for all great leaders – they have demonstrable emotional intelligence.
I can attest to working over the span of my career for more leaders who are not able/willing/capable of being emotionally intelligent, so my own experience backs up the data.
But why is it?
To put it simplistically, it’s because, in my view, it has the word ‘emotion’ in the title. A bit of a give-away.
Although, and again the stats back this up, those leaders who can display EI on average earn $28,000 US more per annum than their non-high EI counterparts, still there’s resistance to the notion because it’s icky.
The middle tips should go into a bit more detail, explain more. Keep them short and to-the-point. E.g., if you're writing a post about how to blog, you can write something like: "Decide how often you want to blog. Be realistic about it. Think you can blog twice a month? Commit to once a month and stick to it."

I do know that EI is now being taught in some schools – hooray – but only in pockets.
Human beings are in general, quite a vicious species.
We are invasive and have managed to conquer every part of planet Earth, no other species can say that. By nature we are about protecting our own physically at least - nine meals from anarchy, no room for EI.
As someone who had to learn about EI quite later on in life, connecting my early life to how I showed up, I was verbally bullied in high school in the UK and when that happens you either retreat into yourself or come out fighting which is what I did at 18, my voice came back and this time brought teeth with it too.
I did become a leader, I was passionate about what I was doing but I squirm when I think about how my emotions negatively affected how I showed up.
I am glad I did get started on my own learning journey, way back in 2002 when a good friend did a personality test on me. All I can remember about it was that I should not be a school bus driver, but it started my ongoing journey of self discovery and exploration and although I am still explosive, it’s now usually reserved for technology that goes awry.
I am amongst the 90% of people who need(ed) to learn EI and now, I love to help people discover the power of EI too.
